I think Neil means open the room door, not the stove door. That shouldn't cause the stove too many problems?

Oh yep . Mine starts with the internal doors all open . Heats the whole house . radiates up the stairs and into the loft ( were I sleep )  ( my Missus snores too much ! )

same for me - heat the whole house.  I checked my gas useage against 2 years ago, before i fitted either of my stoves, and I now burn a bit under half the gas I did, while downstairs is 3-4C warmer than it used to be, upstairs is as warm or a degree warmer, the house is drier, the snugness is amazing!

While many people tend to focus on the potential cost savings, which can vary depending upon the stove and access to wood, there is a lot more to enjoying a wood burning/multifuel stove. The deep seated long lasting heating is very different to more traditional heating methods.

We live in an old stone farmhouse and the difference in the heat generated from a stove compared to having rads working flat out is like chalk and cheese. The heat from our stoves seems to seep into the whole fabric of the house, driving out dampness and radiating a gentle overall warmth  - nothing like it :)
