Here is a picture of the chipper I wrote off early last year. The locking mechanisim on the turntable failed as I went around a corner, the upper unit slewed around and around before toppling, breaking off the truck and hemoraging diesel and fuild all over the road

Few years back we had a Schliesing snap the towhitch of the 7.5tonner, careened across the other carriageway, thru a ditch and fence to land upright on its wheels again. Absolutely no damage to the machine, a credit to the build quality of the machine, and a lot of luck that no one was injured or killed.

i had a similar incident a few years ago. 'someone' (the boss) hadn't placed the pin in correctly on the schleising and the chipper came off at about 35mph on the A20. Snapped the chain clean off the 7.5 tonner and ground to a halt in the slow lane. very lucky as it was about 7.10am and the traffic was quiet. the chipper had no damage except a few scratches.

mike, ive never seen anyone before who owned a jbm, but have always thought they looked a well made bit of kit when seeing them at shows. how are they?

I never owned that one Steve (good thing). But have worked quite often with one. They seem "over built",too heavy for the diameter they accept and unable to throw the chips an acceptable distance should you be required to chip into a woodland or on to a bank.

Plus side is the "direct drive" no clutch, reasonable sized feed tray and high qualitiy chip they produce.

I flipped a six inch Vermeer that was on the back of a cargo once but haven't we all flipped one of those?

My old firm lost their Bandit off the back of the truck when it sheered the whole tow hitch off, expensive little repair that one.

I once got asked to recover an old GreenMech 8 inch from a Fountains yard in west Wales. They had rolled it down a road, thro a stone wall and wrought iron fence. I took the infeed flap off, changed a wheel and adjusted the defective brakes and towed it to the factory on the back of a Mondeo.
