Im just checking with you guys who know the rules. Do we have to get permission to remove a domestic hedge? Ive been trawling through the boredom of The Hedgerows Regulations 1997 and as far as I can see you don't.

"(3) These Regulations do not apply to any hedgerow within the curtilage of, or marking a boundary of the curtilage of, a dwelling-house"

Theres always exceptions though!

No mate. Not in a conservation area. Bog standard round the garden hedge 1.8 high. 2 at its highest. Backs on to a farm track. Hawthorn.
Phoned council to see and they wanted me to send a planning enquiry form. Nowhere on the form has it reference to hedges anyway. I'd take it out but some biddy neighbour would complain.

If it's wholly owned by the client, I'd be tempted to crack on. The link above does allude that it may be protected as it backs onto agricultural land. If it's that likely that someone's going to give you grief over it, then it might just be worth getting the permission in writing.

Ninja felling in the middle of the night with a battery saw!

Turn up the following day with the chipper. Any questions and you're only there on chipper hire.

Job sorted.

Disgraceful behaviour.

Brilliant replies everybody. Thanks.

"Protection does not apply to hedgerows in or marking the boundary of private gardens."

And

"(3) These Regulations do not apply to any hedgerow within the curtilage of, or marking a boundary of the curtilage of, a dwelling-house"

That seems to cover my arse twice. Bye bye hedge.
