Just pricing up a job, and wondered if anyone knows a rough idea of how much we can cut realistically in a day, in tons, per person. Pretty level woodland, nice modest sized birch. The owner wants me to give him a price per ton.

Thanks in advance!

Depends whether you're felling 2" saplings or 4 foot monsters.
Are you snedding by hand leaving brash in place and removing the trunks by machine?
Or have you just got a silky?

1-1.5 tonnes per hour, depending on the individual competency of the cutter. Maybe a bit more as it's clearfell. When I was cutting regularly 6-8 years ago I would have been confident of doing 14-15 tonnes on a 9 hour day.

So many variables.
How fast is your cutter,
What spec are you cutting,
How quick is the forwarder driver,
How much crap do you have to clear,
What surprises might there be?

Brash windrowed

Cutting/felling/snedding doesn't take very long but clearing /tidying brash takes ages., least birch brash stacks easy.
