Christmas presents.

Money is tight this year as i know it is for a lot of us. So as i have got to use up my holiday i thought i would make presents for my family. These are chopping boards.

 

Ian if you see this what is the stuff called i need to seal these with for using with food i remember you said i can get it from Boots.

Boots , I think that was another conversation begins with k and ends in jelly:001_tongue: on my boards i just put bees wax or a food safe oil, the carnuba wax that i gave you should be fine plus it alot more hard wearing and waterproof.

I just remembered it was not you Ian it was an old boy from Essex i was talking too. He told me this food safe oil was £19.99 in a woodturners shop and the same stuff was £1.99 in boots:biggrin:

They look nice mate. Its the simple things that often go down well. I can remember giving everyone home made birdboxes that I found in an old Husquvarna leaflet one Christmas. Went down a treat!!! I got dragged round the shops last week and saw a load of Monkey fists that were door stoppers selling for £25!!! Thats a seriously easy way to make a few Xmas pressies!!! The the old rope out lads!!!!

I use a mixture of olive oil and linseed oil on all my turned stuff.

 

I use it as its easily top-up-able.

 

You can use danish oil.

 

I know the liquid you're refering to but cant remember the name.

several thin layers of olive oil will do the job for stuff used for food as it won't taint the taste

 

oil - light sand - oil light sand again - oil and let dry - sorted

 

works well for fruit bowls etc too

 

if you want to heat proof something then a linseed based oil will do the job - using the same principle of light oil then sand - 3 or 4 layers will usually do it
