Beginners lathe?

Both the tools and the record/Coronet lathe are good recommendations. Also be sure to budget for a bench grinder and jog for sharpening.

My budget is somewhat flexible, would £300 get me a decent enough machine?

 

I have a good grinder/linisher for sharpening.

 

I also have a good belt sander, a 15” disc sander, router, saws etc so don't think I'd want a multitool device.

Hi Daniel, i'm basically in the same situation as you, in that i'm looking for a small lathe as a beginner, but i only want to do small stuff for now and i'm very limited on space and also will be moving shortly. So i have narrowed my search down to these two:

£300 might be ok just for the lathe but you will need the tools to go with it.

Here's my little lathe. My better half got it me at Xmas. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but I love it. Never used one before so total beginner and it will do for what I want.

I was given these turning blanks a few years ago by a mate who had to empty his workshop.

I think they are exotic hardwoods but the labels have faded. If anyone near NW Surrey wants them they can collect them as probably not worth posting.

Yeah I should have remembered I had them when I went up to his home.

Sorry I missed this. PM me the workshop address, as it's a bit closer than your home, and when the weather is a bit better I'll drop them off when out for a ride.
