Iveco propshaft bearing...

Excuse me if this should be elsewhere.

I need to change the prop shaft support bearing on a 2007 Iveco tipper with 150k miles on the clock.

My question is, anything else I should be checking over at the same time in relation to this job?

  Thank you in advance

  Stuart

For what they are those bearings are extremely expensive from Iveco (they are in this country anyway!). It’s cheaper to get the prop shaft entirely overhauled by a specialist (Firow are a firm local to us who manufacture propshafts) than buy the bits!

Make sure you mark the flanges at both ends to ensure it bolts back on in the exact same alignment - the truck will shake like a shitting dog if not...

Cheers, email sent to Firow.

If they send me a re-con shaft, how does the alignment issue work out?

I'll also visit Iveco in Rennes myself Monday and look for prop shaft company here.

I understood that the only requirement on replacing UJ's or Hardy Spicer joints was to match(or should that be unmatch?) the joints at the 2 ends of the shaft, to cancel out the inherent* cyclical speed fluctuation of such joints.

Otherwise it should bolt on "anyhow" being a balanced component.

mth

*being zero when straight but increasing with angular deflection

P.S.

Our bin lorries were a mix of older Iveco and newer Mercedes, similar parts for each brand were often cheaper for the Mercedes, perhaps proving MB's promised lower "whole life" ownership costs, despite the higher purchase price.

at the bottom of this page on the Iveco Daily Forums is supposed to be a link to a manual pdf,

haven't tried downloading it, as mine is 2006.

http://ivecoforums.com/topic/8938138/1/

I did download the Iveco workshop service manual for mine from that site and its has most jobs shown clearly

parts I found some are cheaper to the UK from eastern europe, even with carriage. I used auto-recambi.eu

edit, the link does work, screenshot below from pdf manual - you get bombarded with ads - can't say how much malware I've now hoovered up too, at your own risk

The 4 UJ's can be measured and replaced with pattern parts.

excellent advice - the link below shows suitable centre bearing pattern parts at 40euro and genuine at an eye watering 140euro
