Felling axe

Hi everyone, i was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good quality felling axe?

7lb brades is my favourite or 7lb elwell , both are vintage but come up now and again on eBay and re handle it your self with wooded wedges.
check out buckin billy rays channel on you tube.. he does a lot of axes!

Think I payed £30 for this brades a few years back , the seem to be going up in value so I’ve left this one as a house pet and have a well worn elwell no7 in the truck

The singular fact that struck me, was the generous amount of room left for the wooden shaft!

Which after ruefully observing the failure mechanism of various hammers and sledges that I have owned and reshafted.

Is significent.

I can remember my Dad saying how good the Black Prince Axes were.

I like to get the odd axe off Utube, more about supporting the Utuber channel than wanting an axe..

 

I came across a new channel the other day,,   not a professional set up but her husbands seems to do some very good axes..

 

I'm thinking of getting one off her channel myself in the near future..   theres something special about owning an axe that you see being built...  re purposed that is.  giving it a new life story..

Try searching for skillcult on YouTube or his blog online. He's a bit long winded but seems to know his stuff re axes, and other things.
