if you are ever driving along forstal road, forstal near maidstone, have a look at the planes along the side of the road and the edge of the playing fields. as i remember these are some quite large examples. will try and get some pics next time i'm over that way.

someone told me it was caused by the tree healing from previous wounds and just not knowing when to stop, is this also true?

Theres a road running through aylesford that has loads of these. Cant remember the name. I heard that the trunks are worth alot of money?

 

i'm pretty sure thats the forstal road one i mentioned earlier, i always believed it to be aylesford but the map suggests it comes under forstal.

 

pretty amazing looking trees!
