Rigging pulleys

Just in the process of building my kit up and finally got my pull/lowering rope so now I’m looking at getting a couple of pulleys. So the question is does anyone have any 16mm pulleys lying in the back of the store they would be willing to sell?

I would be wary of second hand “unwanted” pulleys. (LOLER, insurance etc..)
Better off (saving up) buying something new that’s going to suit the work you are doing and something that will last and you can put your confidence in.
This would get you started, takes up to 16mm rope and has a working load up to 1000kg

Or possibly some of the rigging rings, they are excellent value for their capabilities?

The way i understand it is the rings are easier to set up in the tree and provide a bit more friction so less wraps are needed on the portwrap.You may not even need a portawrap if your using 2 sets of rings,1 at one end and another set as a redirect.

Plus they look cool as fck!

I have just needed to get some extra blocks for a big dismantle we have coming up and after contacting HB they spliced up some rings for us that were a fraction of the cost, a fraction of the weight and look simpler to tie. We have not used them yet so the proof of the pudding will be in the eating, we have some pulleys as well though. I think they pretty much work the same as pulleys but as has been said, puts a bit more friction in the system.

Rings are a lot lighter than pulleys up the tree. They will give some friction in the canopy so will aid bollard wraps.

You can buy rings spliced from honeys for a fraction of the cost of a pulley and sling.

I’m normally ground based so thought pulleys would be a better bet as will only be used for pulling the odd tree over. And this way I could set up a simple 2-1 system

Also pulleys can be added midline as opposed to rings needing to be threaded on from the end of the rope
