Can anyone one help? Re Classic Stihl saw

Hello Arbtalkers

 

I was looking at a job today and the customer had an old saw that they had been trying to cut some wood with but it was very blunt.

 

The saw is a Stihl 08s I think, and in used but mint condition (made in Brazil sticker on the side still intact). It was inherited thru the family. They also have the original manual and tool kit its on its original bar too i think. Any ideas on how old it is or its value today.

Hi, here's a link to the original spec for the German one, yours is likely newer, I don't know when they started making them in Brazil, there's a few on ebay at the mo....cheers

Thanks that looks like the one, except it had a chain brake. But like you said its probably newer.

Have one without chainbrake

 

Heavy & not that powerful compared to modern saw.

 

Why did the make them without proper rear handle seems poor ergonomics?

I think I’ve got one upstairs in the workshop that a client gave me.

 

’classic’ is stretching it a bit.

 

Slow, heavy, pretty much worthless imo.

Heavy, underpowered and likely to kick back.
Without a chain brake it's illegal on site.

I heard theres thousands of them older stihs still  used to clear the rainforest as they kept making them in some countries until recently.
