Did some planting on one of their sites as a subby a few years ago. We were whip planting on a site where there was no machinery or even any other contractors and we were required to wear hard hats, hi viz, safety glasses, gloves and steel toe cap, lace-up boots. Every box needs to be ticked. No idea what they are like to deal with on a higher level.

Aren’t they going tits up due to the pension schemes?

Yep it's not looking good...but I think the government will have to save face a bail them out...I just thought a lot more guys on here had ground clearing or tree contacts with them especially with H2O being pushed on.

I feel for those that will made redundant, but its time for the big loss making, contract sucking, faceless, SME killing big 5 to fall.

They all started 10 - 15 years ago, systematically bought out the competion and closed them down, not good ethics.

It was a while ago now but cleared a lot of trees and scrub on motorway banks over a three year period for Carillion , no problems with payments or otherwise.

The contracts I believe wernt the problem, initially, Cameron made it law that any private company taking over a public one must honour the pensions. Most of the pensions where paid at 3:1.

Very good if your recieving the pension, not so much if your paying it ......
