I think very few manufacturers products are as tough and durable as they used to be, I like 3 series Husqvarnas because they lack the complicated electronics & whilst some go for years others are problematic  - the less electronics the better IMO.

If you're after something better in terms of durability on a budget I'd go for a Dolmar 420 - Do I get comission yet, Shavey? :D

You often state your dislike of the complicated electronics, your viewpoint is as a repairer, as a user I find them trouble free. One issue with a Husky 540 promptly resolved, otherwise its great.

Exactly! Today I used my 572 cutting some large wind blown timber for several hours. Would I choose my older 372 over it. Not a chance it’s a massive step forward ! I’m sure if you picked up similar Stihl machines it would also be night and day.

people who say I don’t want any of that electric rubbish probably have modern fuel injected cars or pick ups. It’s the same story you wouldn’t go back to having a carb on your car. I like my classic volvos but my Nice modern one is the one I choose every time ?

Yes, I take your point & agree entirely, its more avoid than dislike, to me the ever encroaching emissions laws and the desire to be seen exploiting the latest technology to gain sales is not always a good thing for end users. OK if your saws are provided by your company you pick another if one goes wrong, but not every one has that luxury.

From a users perspective they are fine no, amazing so long as everything works. I just prefer things less complicated, for me theres nothing worse going back & forth to a dealer with something that wont go away particually round here as they charge an arm and a leg!

But maybe one day, until then wheres that Spud ported two man saw?

Does anyone else have thoughts on the Dolmar?

It would be fantastic to have an arsenal of saws, but the pocket won't run to that, so it's a question of building up gradually. Case in point, I'm running a 1999 Ford Ranger (God bless it !), and though it might not look 'flash' sitting next to shiny, spanking new 4X4's, it does the job I need it to do, reliably and without fuss. Yes, presenting the right image is important, but if you do your job well clients and customers will appreciate your work and recommend you to others.

SORRY ! , going off topic a little there, but still applicable to the subject I think.

I guess to sum it up it's doing your best with the best kit you can afford.
