Serious drought of Arb workers?

Problem is a lot of people think £10/hr is reasonable down south as well. You may get a labourer for that but probably not a good one. Only kids will jump at that money and after a couple of days graft they'll jump away just as quick.

Without hijacking this thread, is there anybody hiring in north/west Wales?

I am currently employed but I'm looking to change employers asap. Wages/lack of kit/poor organisation/etc are the reasons why I need to move.

I know for a fact after speaking to some potential workers that the excessive level ( and cost ) and timescale , of certification and kit , is a big obstacle , also moving to different areas due to high housing costs  is a real barrier and also this industry is just not viewed as a serious career compared to many others .

I sympathise with you.  I have worked for some truly awful people in the past and I hope that those experiences have made me a better employer now.  My first day at work as a tender 16 year old, the boss (who I was properly intimidated by as he was the reincarnation of Desperate Dan) turned to me and said 'right Matt, you might as well f*ck off now'.  I wasn't sure whether to return the next day or if that was my marching orders!

It's frustrating because I've done this (Foresty, fencing and arb) since college which is about 13 years now. I've got windblow, large trees, chipper, climbing up to cs40 and obviously plenty of experience but I'm still only getting £8.50 an hour!
I'd love to move on but with kids and a mortgage I'll need another job to go to before leaving this one.

We are in the Herts/Essex borders and looking for new staff. Great range of modern/new equipment and huge variety of works. Difficult to find new people either experienced or coming into the job.

I try not to get involved in these threads but this post caught my eye.

 

You pay a mortgage and raise (at least) two kids on £8.50 an hour?

 

How? Is that after tax? Sorry to be nosy, but I’m curious.

Before tax. Two kids. Mortgage of about £500 a month. Be as nosy as you like pal!
It's a struggle but I love the job , and where we live, and honestly don't think I could do anything else.

There aren't many people hiring up here and my employer knows this. Almost has an attitude of 'where else are you going to go?'
