Dont you find that pop spits even when its really dry?

I must admit it was easy to split, but so wet that when the axe bit the sap splashed into your eyes on the odd accasion, I have it stacked into a metal log store wall which is open to the air both sides which has a waterproof roof,

It should be ok for next year,

He he no what I meant was even when its really dried out doesnt it spit and pop in the fire, ie not too great with an open fire and no guard etc.

I wouldn't know, I've moved on from the good old days and bought a very efficient stove, where most of the heat comes into the house

What sort of diameter is it- cordwood or sawlog- and where are you mate?

Unlike traditional fires, which are extremely good at heating the sky.

I'm burning poplar tonight and its not splitting or popping. Never had any problems with it doing that though.

I split it into small logs about four to five inches round and eight inches long as I have an 7KW Aarrow burner, so the spitting bussiness will not bother me.

I used to mix a bit in the loads when I was doing logs and never had any complaints, helps eek out the better stuff

Makes good kindling as well

I believe they used to make matches out of it.
