made by reynold boughton (hence RB) then dodge and then renault. the army used to use them to tow artillery after they got rid of the land rover 101's but they were'nt quite up to the strain of pulling a gun that had decided to bury itself into the ground. a couple for sale at witham specialist vehicles.

RB44's were a way better gun tractor than the 101.

I've had 2, an ex army 5.2 tonner, and a Dodge S75 7.5 tonner.

IMO, they are a much better bet than a mog, down to the simplicity. Dana axles, simple transmission, and perkins engine.

Mods sound perfect Pete, I ran the 5.2 tonner on U900 rims and tyres with a transit tipper body.

Pump tweak sounds good, the perky should be good for at least 150hp.

I havent had RB44s but i did have a dodge 50 with a perkins. That was awesome, and like Ed says, the tweak is sorted on the lump. I do know a chap who swears by the RB44 he has.

I will bow to your knowledge and experience of these vehicles Ed as what i wrote was based on hearsay rather than fact. :blushing::001_smile:

Usually spread by disgruntled Landrover fans who were upset that the Llama did'nt win the gun tractor contract.

Shame really, as the Llama was the best commercial landrover never built
