Just don't use the word 'Subbie'.

Then there is no confusion.  I have freelanced climbed for about 12 years now.  for 3 of those years I had PL Insurance.

All it was worth was lining the pocket of the company I purchased it from.

We don’t expect anyone we use to provide insurance and I personally think it’s an insult for us as a company to expect that.

It's worth having if you want to do your own weekend jobs etc. I worked for companies most of the time but occasionally climbed for landscapers who weren't covered for certain heights and it's needed for your own weekend jobs.

A guy with a farm i did some weekend stuff for, actually wanted proof of my PL  so that was useful. My Personal accident and public liability was only 500 for the year (arborisk) and i hurt my knee and had time off, they paid out no problems.

So yeah i'd highly recommend getting it. Worth noting that if you want to do stuff with builders/landscapers they often require PL £5mil minimum.

Doing your own jobs PL without EL isn't worth jack.
If you'd hurt your groundy instead of your knee you'd have found that out.

And thats when the preimums go through the roof

It's also illegal to have somebody working for you and not hold EL insurance.

Why do you need it for weekend work where is the legal requirement to have PLI? ELI on the other hand if you injure someone and they/you are not covered...

I will put it like this, I employ someone to cut the tree at my house they fell a chunk and wipe out my extension and do a vanishing act, I can more than likely claim on my house insurance.

If you seriously hurt or even kill someone you work with how do you cover that?

So if a builder landscaper employs you to do a job you take on the risk? Are you invoicing the client or is the builder/landscaper paying you? I work for a landscaper on Saturdays once a month through the year doing his high hedges and tree work he pays me - I work on his insurance.

if I was invoicing the client that’s a different thing altogether I’d also make sure I’d have ELi also.

How do you mean, it’s not against the law to work weekends or be self employed without PLI
