retrieving pulley savers/rope guides without retreival ball

ok, so my rope doesn't have a spliced eye on which i can securely tie a retrieval ball.

 

But I really want to get a more advanced cambium/friction saver device like a Pulley Saver or ART Rope guide. But these can't be retrieved with the old 'tie a knot in the end of your rope' technique, as only a retrieval ball can fit through.

 

So aside from having to buy a whole new expensive rope with a spliced eye. Does anyone have a useful solution to retrieving these devices from the ground without a ball in a spliced eye?

If you heat up the end of a chainsaw file and melt a hole in your rope you can thread a small piece of throwline through tie in a loop and when retrieval is needed girth hitch the retrieval ball on the throwline loop.

What about one o those aluminium retrieval 'bullets' that you put on the end of un spliced rope, dunno if they're still available?

Look at a choker joker, you can clip a pulley onto a carabiner onto the choker joker!

I think I'd be going with Ewan's idea rather than overcomplicating things with something that has a rope with a spliced eye in the configuration photos....
