Stihl MSA 120 V Husky 120i Cordless

I am looking for a cordless Li-on chainsaw. Has anybody any experience of using either the Stihl or Husky at the domestic end of the market?

 

Both are the same price. The Stihl seems lighter which is good as it needs to be carried, but Stihl seem to have come up with a ridiculous battery idea, in that each range of its cordless tools needs a different battery. So I couldn't buy a MSA 120 and then upgrade the saw to the pro model in a year or two as it would need an entirely different battery!! What were Stihl thinking?

 

From the website it looks as though Husqvarna have taken the sensible approach in that at least the same battery will fit the pro and domestic range of saws!

 

Has anybody used either saw? What are your thoughts?

I have the Stihl MSA 120 and have used it a fair bit domestically for about 6 months but not seen the Husky.

 

I like the Stihl, it's light and ideal for what I want which is cutting small branches, pruning etc. Much of that is down to the chain and bar, the Husky looks to have a wider chain which would put me off a bit.

 

I do find the Stihl noisier than I expected, an annoying sequel when the motor starts and stops and I'm not keen on the tool-less chain tensioner either as it seems to clog up with chippings.

 

I would happily buy another MSA 120 if I lost mine.

Bought an msa200 a few months back. I only use it for trimming branches and twigs. It will cut through a 10" log but I've yet to try felling anything with it.

Nice not to have the noise and exhaust when you're in a giant bush with no air flow.

Just checked the catalogue. Yeah, different batteries. ???

I have a makita top handled cordless saw , less than £200 without batteries and charger which I already have and use with many other power tools , so far i have found it a very useful bit of kit ........

Yes. It gets through bigger stuff quicker. And through the battery.
