Silver Birth for me as well. King of Norway I noticed as I lived there for 5 years and its all they want to burn, even import it from East Europe. Seems to be an open secret here in Scotland.

Also it burns well unseasoned.

Not sure I'd agree with that, it maybe burnable and better than nothing when green, but is far, far better burned dry.

It seasons quickly as well. I split a few cages worth in November'16 and sold some last week to a regular for next autumn/winter. He told me it was all sub 20%. Not bad for air dried (wet and damp) west of Ireland.

Agree with all above. I'm guessing the stuff in Norway might be 'denser' (smaller growth rings). Birch bark firelighters are great especially mixed with a bit of dried orange peel

Im not saying it burns as good wet as it does seasoned obviously. But it burns very well freshly cut compared to other hardwoods.

Visited the Mary Rose yesterday and they have a load of Tudor birch logs that were on board and preserved by the silt. I'm guessing they've probably dried out a bit since coming up in the 80's but it's the only Tudor firewood in existence
