Advice for buying start-up tipper

A 5k tipper will do the same as a 10-17k tipper

 

Sometimes going new is better for tax etx and image but at the end of the day they do the same job

 

A new motor will depreciate a lot.

 

A 3-5k motor wont depreciate a lot

 

Most folk that go for new either turn over a lot of brass or are no good on the spanners. An older motor can break down yes but so can a new one.

Factor in downtime. The money I lost through having to cancel work due to vehicle breakdowns was far more than the cost of repairs itself. Having a reliable vehicle counts for a lot

If it's your only vehicle good point,I run my old cabstar (no expense spared mechanically) a nissan 4wd and trailer and my family car (disco) is there for back up,all have tow bars so I have no down time

I can't believe people think financing a new truck can be similar financially... There maybe other benefits, like image and reliability..

 

I agree - Image is very important when running a business. Its your mobile advertising hoarding. The 1st thing very often a potential customer see's. I know that your ability, work ethic, etc is important to us but your dealing with customers where very often first impressions get you the job! Don't be put off by a truck with above average milage if its got a good service history, looks smart enough and one careful owner? Having said that don't turn up in top spec 17 plate Range Rover:001_rolleyes:

Second hand vehicles is a complete gamble. But saying that so are new ones.

 

I don't know what to say. Nice people sell nice cars- a rule that has worked out well in the past.

 

Got a transit that I paid 2250 for. Took very little to get through first mot and hasn't broke down yet but I am handy on the spanners and can notice things before they develop.

 

Wouldn't mind something newer looking because people say the van looks a bit of a traveler wagon. But the truth is that it is the travelers with the newest smart looking tippers.

I bought a nissan cabstar 7 years ago for 3k,it cost me £700 to get it straight,it's cost me nearly a grand on some mot''s and hardly anything on others,it's done 200k now and still going strong,it'll cost you the same IMO if you patch up an old one or finance a new one

 

I find the above hard to believe I have a 51plate cabstar 30k on it when I got it 6 years ago got 63k on now pulls Ifor tipper about loaded and well loaded it had been looked after before I got it and looked after since apart from servicing (on a regular basis ie every 5-6k) its cost me 4 tyres 1 exhaust, 1 starter motor,1 battery and 2 front shockers over 6 years ,just been to Cardiff to collect a dumper in it on sat 496mls round trip 65-70mph worked out 33.8 to the gallon, so have i a shed load of money to spend on mine in the future,?.

I'm up to 200k miles not 63k!! Cheaper agreed,just long term costs,I can see both sides but wouldn't buy new

5 to 6 grand will get a good truck, at that money you got the choice of ford transit,s Iveco dailys Nissan Cabstar,s all good trucks

 

You've got to be a bit more positive mate
