My Thule bike rack can pivot forward when it's locked to the tow ball so I can get into the boot, doesn't yours?

I've not had any problem with the keys provided the clamp is snugly gripping the tow bar ball, have you tried wiggling the clamp whilst trying to unlock?

Sadly it sounds like a broken bit of key is stuck in the lock.

No joy. It's an old one hence the key snapping i suppose. Will try wiggling the clamp which is a good idea and not tried yet. There's no key debris stuck in there. This one doesn't pivot unfortunately. Tried using the half key to turn it back but no joy. Will try the locksmith before any drilling. A tow bar specialist said he can knock the barrel out without damaging it from underneath

I've got a socket set, ratchet spanner set, and screwdriver set from Halfords. Lifetime guarantee 🖒

Never bought any tools from halfords just bits and bobs but if your tools last longer than the window wipers i got(2 sets) then you've won a watch.

Hopefully not a halfords watch :001_smile:

The screwdrivers are around 15 years old now and they still sell identical ones. The socket set is a good quality. Have done all sorts to the chipper with it and recently did an engine swap on my stump grinder using almost nothing else

Spanners and stuff with lifetime guarantee. It's fine for your average kicking about stuff and they do just replace it if its faulty.

I'd say you should take it all to Halfords and tell them this is what happened with their key. They'll probably sort it.

Managed to get the lock barrel out with a hammer and chisel without damaging it! Got a replacement part on the way so it's a result. It's a bit easy to get them out but it serves it's job as a theft deterrant.

Trying a locksmith isn't a bad idea at all.
