School Holidays.

Day one.

The bairn and me made some bread. Page one in the bakery book we found on the shelf. Made a right bloody mess with flour and stuff all over the place but it turned out OK and not just edible...it was very tasty. And we've cleaned up before wife arrives home. Bonus!

Wonder if we dare look at page two.

Looks great for a first attempt at bread, nice one!

I've been baking yeasty things for about 6 years now, and haven't had to buy any bread in about 4. It's so easy to fit in with whatever your schedule is and tastes much nicer than bland shop bought stuff.

Homemade butter though, very impressive - howdya do that then?

Well first of all you find a cow......

Haha. No, its so simple. Some thick cream in a jam jar and shake like mad. It solidifies first and then you keep shaking. The buttermilk separates off and the lump that's left is butter! Wash it under cold water and squish it about to get rid of the rest of the buttermilk then mix in a bit of salt and that's it....spread it on your bread. Takes less than ten mins.
