The rope that comes with the Zillon lets it down IMO. Not tried it with a different rope but should be just as good as the zigzag I would have thought

It is. Petzl want you to only use their rope and the CE mark is for both the rope and device as a complete package. I would be happy to LOLER the Zillon without a rope and then a separate split tail of choice.

(Don't tell Bolam though, he might grass me to the ARB police [emoji57])

That's what I do with the Grillon I split it all down to individual items, get the ticks in the boxes then make it up as I please with passed items.

Thanks for the insight - I thought it would be a steepish learning curve with the SJ 3. It would be good to hear any feedback after another weeks climbing use. I think you will eventually master those anomalies. [emoji106]1:

Il keep you posted! I'll try and get some good videos for YouTube so you can see for yourself!

I can't think of a single advantage of any of these over a short VT with a pulley.

Maybe I'm just tight.

I used to think that, then I bought a positioned.

Does your hitch not get memory after a while making it a pain to take up slack?

The positioner releases so easily, no matter how heavy the climber.
