Hi all another question can I use say waxed type rope from B and Q for practice or should I buy some small pieces of Non waxed rope to practice my knots ?

No you cant use any type of rope from BQ mate.

You need to buy an arborist tree climbing rope from a reputable company.

These ropes are specificly made for the purpose of tree climbing and have all the inherant safety measures built in to them.

If you had some knowledge of rock climbing and understood how to spot dangerous equipment id say u could practice with a rock climbing rope but your not.

Do you know any local climbers in your local area that could give your some tutorage in there spare time?

Or contact one of the lads and lasses on these pages who are nearby,maybe they would do you a turn

You can practice your knots on bootlaces if you want mate.

Arb specific rope does handle nicely though, and it would pay to get hold of some.

Some of the suppliers on here could sort you short offcuts out for a few quid.
