log splitter

Hi All can you recommed a log splitter for doing billets must be vertical with winch or other means of log lift ,quick cycle time,would like standalone power supply eg engine or electric saves useing a tractor and cheaper to replace when knackered . I have looked on youtube and the nett but wondered what you guys use and why ?.

I can't afford a big fancy one , I have a Thor Mignon 11 tonne.

It will do meter billets and is surprisingly powerful.

I would probably upgrade to a Posch , Binderberger or Thor upright in time.

I have Thor upright Kombi, so tractor or electric, with two separate pumps. It's great does 1.2m billets or rings with table. Auto return, adjustable return height, two speed down stroke, safe. Nearly always use with electric, just press the button and you're off, inside shed, quiet and no fumes, would buy the same again in an instant.

Thor seem to make decent kit.

My next step is to upgrade to one with a winch and or lift.

Hi Woody,

 

We've supplied a few Uniforest vertical splitters with a winch but all of them PTO, or the combi set up (PTO/3 phase). The winch would relie on the tractor to act as a ground anchor.

 

If you were to go with a petrol or electric machine without a linkage then bear in mind you'd need to tie it down to something heavy! As well as potentially requiring an electrical feed.

 

After speaking with a few of our customers at shows etc., none would go back to a standard splitter. The wireless control options aren't to much more either. The video below shows Uniforests latest splitters with all the optional extras such as the two height table, chainsaw holder, tank holder, 4 way knife, winch and more.

 

Please don't hestiate to call for further details. We should have a splitter at the Arb show this weekend. Unlikely to have a winch but it'll give a very good idea of the build quality

The uniforest looks like a nice bit of kit. Any idea of price on one? I'm looking at bigger splitters with pto hydraulics rather than my cheap ebay job I have ( i can only split into 65 cm long billets)

Problem with one like mine is the ram doesn't go all the way to the footplate , so you can get caught out with different lengths , so I split them on the table thus.

My next step is to upgrade to a big vertical.
