Is this a realistic price for 26t softwood

I've just been quoted for 26t of softwood (Pine from Forestry Commision wood, FSC Certified) at £50 per tonne inclusive of haulage (Norfolk to Lincs) and VAT. Is this about right as I gather prices have rocketed in the last couple of years? I seem to remember two years back this would have been about £35/tonne.

Sawlog? Chip?

Working backwards that price seems very reasonable for log.

Pine log here would be say £35+ roadside, haulage £10-15, plus vat = £60 so above is a good deal.

Chip @ £28/t ..... = £51.60.

Good quality larch here now fetching (way over what euroF will pay) £60+/metre... Sometimes more... (Roadside)

Got a couple of 25t loads in the last two years, very reasonable rates, good bit lower than anything quoted on this thread so far.

Enquirer about another load, to be told " can't sell you any because of the diseased larch"!

Don't really know the ins and outs myself, but they can trundle all over the island with it on lorries, the roads have plenty evidence of this, bark, twigs and the like, ship it to wherever from the temporary pier, but can't sell firewood on the island!!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

we pay £750 for an artic load of 4.2m dead spruce all sub 14" diameter. It's moisture content varies from 15-22%

Need to remember that we are in a very forested area with various sites being no further than 10 miles away so haulage costs are a lot cheaper than further south
