moving all that dirt will use alot of skips, thats way under priced if you want to make some profit, and it'll take a while to get it out if you restricted to a alleyway for access that means you'll only get a variable track base 1.5ton digger in with a 750kg skip loading dumper, that wont move the soil quick. you'd be better off grabbing the soil over a fence or piling it somewhere near a road for a grab if posible, they are far better value. I'd say its worth doing some homework and trying to get the job, sitting pulling some levers all day is a nice break from tree work every now and then.

27 and an old bike, barrow, boulders and everything you can think of that you would bury in 40years. what a nightmare, took me weeks, then i was stuck with 27 bags of crap in my yard. the old guy was such a great old bloke though, he gave me the money and had that look of 'dont spend it all at once look'

good shout, but he's inliekly to find any ona raised bank, probably man made, but BT cables are the worst i have found them inches below the surface. water and gas you can repair yourself:blushing:

Bt fibre optic cables hidden on a bank was the best one i have found. They probably werent even hidden when the job was done!

3-4 days work there, no where near 3.5k. i did a landscape job this week, 3.5 days on the job, bill was 2.6k after wages made £1375 out of a bit of building that i got someone els to do, barrow 14t of soil in, a bit of turfing and a bit of small tree work. 4 lads on site aswell so i didnt really do much to be honest. you can make more money doing this than tree work IMO but i like the tree work more.

 

Mini digger with a man £150 for a day

Grab wagon £220 for 16t taken away

a days conny bashing and a few fence panels to put up

We were quoted a oner (+vat) per 20ton truck with clambucket to muckaway topsoil, much cheaper than skips

If you've got loads on John I would just do the tree type stuff and move on - get Mark from Mark1 diggers to do the groundwork (or someone else anyway).... Would be alright maybe in the Summer but imagine yourself in the pouring rain having hired the digger and the soil sticking in the bucket and the mess..... urgghhh! Not nice!
