The beech came in at 476kg. Well done neiln

 

Must admit I thought it would be more than that.

 

Yet it sank in water, so heavier than or as heavy as water. A cube of water weighs 1000kg, so you must have only had o.476 of a cube if actual wood. Thats a hell of a lot of air space.

Yes as I say it was a surprise. Only tested one piece so presume the rest was lighter. But as I said earlier it was orrible wood and splintered badly so yes a fair bit of air space. I do always break our logs down more than a lot you see. I saw one of the standard (maybe heatas) that recommend no split size was more than 6" and I work to that so if a log is over 6" even at one end it gets split again.

Did you shake the crate to reduce the gaps?
