ID this coppice pleas

We have several in our wood. Farmer told me they are Beech

But I am not sure if they are.

I'm looking and looking and saying to myself "why isn't this hazel?"

 

Then I'm thinking "who would not recognise hazel?"

 

Maybe I'm nuts.

Check the leaf liter if there is still some .

If it's a recent pic I'd expect to see some sign of catkins if it were hazel.

 

Is there a pic of the buds at all, that would help greatly with an id.

I thought they are hazel but this because I am no expert and I used to hear the two wards together coppice + Hazel.

Will wait for leaves and flowers to show.

Here is a different picture, I don't know if I call this coppice

But what they have done is cut the branches partially and let the fall to the gound something like hedge laying but I believe this was done when she wood for phasent breeding.

They're hazel (99% sure), the one in second photo is a beauty with the layered stems
