Rigging down stems with Rigging Rings

Why Joe?

Just work out the fix lengths, use a tape measure and make a wire did out of a coat hanger.

Tenex is really easy to splice.

I know it is mate, but I've struggled with 16mm tenex using a welding wire fid because I kept picking up internal strands.

I also find that as soon as you taper the end to bury it the taper unravels and slips out of the fid.

Hollow fids are much easier for me.

Welding wire must be better on larger stuff.

Nice big ring you have Jesse, never broke a rope yet either well apart from when Uncle Q told me it would fit and it didn't he is the worst groundsman i have ever met mind.

To be fair I have never snatched anything big on rings to make a fair judgement all I know is I bought rings for the guys and hardly see them used as everyone still seems to use a block.

and like Scotspine maybe I and we are to stuck in ways good old Dinosaur Rope Technique and blocks it is then.

 I hope no man ever says that again to me marc.

Id say get a couple of beast rings and splice them into some 19 mm tenex , you may be surprised at how nice it is when rigging down :thumbup1:

I think Q should stay up in the tree where he belongs :001_tt2:

Send it over mate . Ben is coming over in a couple of weeks, I usually force feed him german beer to get the more gnarly and dirty ropes spliced efficiently ........ mind you "we" (he) has done a dirty tachyon and cougar of mine so your portland braid will probably be a walk in the park :001_rolleyes:

Did you say crabby crotches when it suits ?

Crabby crotches have suited me in the past when I've been struggling to dump a load.

You can stick to your dirty cougars.

Dumping loads on rings , where has this conversation gone

Scots , I see what you are saying but i don't think its really an issue as the rings don't have enough friction to inhibit the rope stretch .

this is only speaking from my own experience with the rings, the problem is that people compare topping strops and rigging rings and it seems that topping strops left a bad taste in the well, lets say, the more mature arb due to rope breaking.

the double beast, just doesn't break ropes.

Its also much much nicer to use as its half the weight of a comparable block and sling.

You've probably come across more rings than anyone else Jesse, so I think we should all listen to you when you talk about things like friction, stretch, bad taste in the mouth and mature.

Bolam with have to pay in G+T's or Rum if he wants some dirty old portland splice.. payment prior to splicing and if you want it whipped it's an extra shot of tequila (silver label for straight whip, gold for spiral whip):laugh1:
