Bar oils too thick

Been using the Oregon anti fling oil but in this cold wether I'm finding it too thick and not getting through quick enough. What do you guys use? A few folk have said to use engine oil as it is cheap and will get pumped through quicker.

The heat of the saw will warm it up, so I don't really see how the weather affects it once its in the saw.

 

Sure its slow while refuelling, but no real hardship.

Well to be fair I was cutting oak so maybe should have used engine oil. The chain was sharp but the bar started smoking very quickly.

I'm currently trialing Rye Oil ISO 100 Viscosity Chain Oil in a harvester (where the tank doesn't get hot); it is significantly thinner than what is probably ISO 150 you are using...

 

Well known Farmers Co round here also sells ISO 100... pricey tho.

Use rapeseed oil. Better for the environment, better for you, cheaper, doesn't clog up like the bio oil from ex. Stihl and is thinner than regular bar oil. Remains liquid down to -20 C.

Been using Oregon bio oil for 10 years or so , no problem until I bought the Ms 150.

I've switched to dolmer oil now and that works for the 150.

Here in winter ( Berlin ) we regularly work in temperatures below freezing.

Mix it with a bit of veg oil

Have you checked that the bar hole is clear and the pump is working ok?

Yea everything is working as it should be. Some to a boy and he reckoned working in cold weather, especially cutting hard wood engine oil is better as its thin and doesn't block up

And cakes your saw with burnt on layer of crap. Stopped using it. Longer bars don't like it either.
