wtf are you supposed to do ???

Not a lot!

Except not to worry about it or think for one second that you were ripping him off.

Could have happened to you a thousand times on other jobs you havent won its just that the other customers dont drink in the same pub as you. :001_smile:

saw a customer in the pub last night and got a right bollocking.

quoted him £300-00 to take down an ash n a syc in his garden.

thought it was a fair price

a "mate" of his at work has just done it for £20-00 a tree :confused1:

said he'd done it just for the firewood.

the trees were fairly straightforward fells, but when asked about insurance etc, the bloke shook his head, called me a conman and walked away.

wtf are you supposed to do ???

Ask him (the customer) if he would come and take down trees for you at that price, sounds like a prize pratt

felled a couple large ash trees today. costumer tells me he got quote from guy who turned up to do last job with kids helping out. the guy quoted him 3000. I quoted him 700 and done.. it was easy..just felling them and leaving them. 3 guys 1 easy day. 500 profit.

Makes you think though...some people will pay that much...and maybe our skills are worth that much.

Though there will always be assholes who think we are just ' wood cutters ' and want us to do it for beer money.

you treated him like a customer and he spoke to you like an idiot, dont mix business with pleasure, i dont talk shop if i am out of my work clothes, especially if i am in the pub, thats what would annoy me the most if someone made comments to me like that, so now if they do i talk back to them in the same manner, i have probably lost all my crap moaning customers this way in the last few years and it is great, i cant barge into the doctors surgery and have a good moan, so dont do it in my office, you probably felt choked because you were so annoyed, let it out and make sure he knows not to speak to you like that again, make a fool of him. dont try and think of an awesome comeback for the next situation because the rage will blind you and make your mind go blank, just say nothing, not a word, blank him totally, then when he feels like an idiot then just slag him off, turn it around, go back to playground mentality if thats the way he is playing then see how he reacts then. you are not loosing a good customer that is for sure mate

Have had similar happen to me on more than one occasion now -

''My mate rekons he can do it for £50''

It's a waste of time even taking them on - you're better to just forget it, put it out of your head and get on with somehting more productive - like drinking beer.

If you do feel the need to take them on, you can proudly tell them that you are qualified, insured, experienced, you offer your services at a price which is professional, competitive and honest. Then you can tell him that his mate is a propper prize prat for being willing to underwrite all risks associated and to put himself in danger for the sake of £50!
