Hi everyone I'm after any advice that anyone has of using bank mowers and which one to recommend ? I'm just pricing up a job with huge steep banks (45degrees) around water courses and covering large areas , strimming it is out of the question the area is too big and I don't have enough manpower ! I've been looking at a ransomes spider 2 but at a cost of £20k it isn't cheap ! Any help is appreciated ! Many thanks. Ross.:001_rolleyes:

45 degrees is very steep, we cut quite a few bankings but they max out at around 38 degrees. Have been using Ferris mowers but trying a Scag this year as other contractors have told me that they are alot more stable on turns. For bankings as steep as you are looking at remote control mowers are your best shot. But as you say are expensive. Might be wrong, but I think Balmers GM have a used roboflail in their workshop. It might be on their hire fleet but well worth a phone call.

Scag mowers are great on bankings. You can also get a flail version for really rough areas.

I used to mow the banks of a reservoir in London and found a scag flail was best for the job , these were at least 45 degrees, I would go for a diff lock model if they make them (turner used to)
