felling licence

The trees are nhs owned and are pushing a large wall over onto a public footpath hence the reason they are being removed, Why do you need a felling licence? the way the application reads its under the assumption that i am felling hectares of trees in woodland???

And they aim to come back to you within 10 weeks!

It's not just about woodlands or large numbers of trees. Check to see if you fit one of the exemptions. If not you will need one.

If the trees are coming down due to the root system causing direct damage to a wall then it sounds fairly simple. Telephone your local FC officer and explain the situation. He may even come and have a look the same day with you. The system is a little more flexible than TPO's and conservation area applications, and you local officer can give you the green light straight away without all the paperwork needed if he agrees with the reasoning behind the felling. If he does disagree with you then at least you saved yourself a spot of trouble if you had of carried on and got reported.

Is it volume of usable timber or volume of material being removed.

So say clearing a large are of less than 8" mixed species trees and chipping the lot to be removed producing 30qube of chip on an industrial estate who have lpa planning consent would or wouldn't need 1?

Its volume of material over 8cm diameter @ 1.3m or 10cm for thinning. It relates to the trunks as lopping and topping is exempt so no problem with large branches. So therefore your 8" trunks would be covered.

As in your scenario you have LPA consent this would be an exemption. Works to implement full planning consent are exempt in the same way as with TPOs.

Cheers

Probably worth contacting the local rights of way team at the county council. They might be helpful with notices/ closures etc, if it's a prow.
