Been using Silky saws since their introduction in the early 90's. When Midland Tree Surgeons started stocking the innovative Original Sky Harness from Swensk Tradvard of Sweden.

Best thing since sliced bread.

I remember seeing a Sky belt for the first time in 96.....got my first Silky in 97 and never looked back.

My first hand saw was a ars

Then a Silky Gomtaro

Then back to ars.

Which i lost a few weeks back

And now this one , which is the best so far.

I'd have to agree that as good as Silky are, 50 quid plus is pretty steep. Try a Samurai. Less brand name clout, but basically the same thing and current retail is about low 30's for Zubat equivalent

I cut about 40 stems on a London Plane head high over a parade of shops and flipped each one so it was all neatly stacked ready to chip whilst the climber in the tree next to me was creating a huge hanging birds nest....cutting and manipulating branches with a hand saw is an art.

 

the cut is the easy bit getting the branches down and to the chipper can sometimes be really hard work

I've used a few different makes before , all adequate. But the Silky cuts so smooth the extra 15 pounds you pay is well invested.

Used a Brand new Silky Gomtaro today.....It's a branch Scalpel

Be careful Mr Fox! They seem to want to cut you when new, bit like they want to show who's boss!

We were issued new silkys a while back and i opted for a gomtaro over the usual zubat.3 weeks later i bought a replacement blade for my zubat.

Couldnt get on with the gomtaro...dunno why-to each his own.
