Choose a widespreading hardwood that's symmetrical and 3 dimensional i.e. a field tree.

Oaks are usually the best.

The most important thing to learn is managing your rope as you work your way around the tree.

Go the the end of each branch, and imagine you're cutting off a couple of feet, you'll soon pick up the pitfalls and visualise your next move.

I used a sycamore tree to practice on last year.. but thats mostly because its more or less a two minute walk from the house...

Which brings up what really matters, find a local tree thats easy to get to and use...

I wouldn't recommend a monkey puzzle tree, I dare say they're pretty thin on the ground.. you're gonna find it hard findin one close by...LOL

Sycamore is a pretty good choice Vesp.

I pretty much learnt on them because we used to get hundreds.

Oak is overrated. I still get plenty of them. Prepared comp trees are lovely, but they are generally shaggy rough-barked bastards with loads of epi screwing up your throws and line retrieval.

Medium size pops are pretty nice.

If you can reach the tips you're getting there!
