Hi Ian,

Having seen your table (nice by the way) can you recommend anyone who can plane/thickness boards, I've got a stack of oak I milled a while back that is for my lounge floor... just need to find some one not too far from Worcester?

Cheers.

I'm afraid not sorry, the table i used a belt sander which worked very well. Other than that my friend has a thicknesser that i use sometimes for smaller stuff approx 20cm wide. Other than that with a floor you can get an industrial sander that you walk with once the floor is down they also work very well.

I am looking for a local company to do this sort of stuff but at the moment its not worth it price wise also looking at local collages as well.

-the floor sander was my initial plan, I used one of those on a pipe floor which worked ok, but when I tested it on a good piece of milled oak, it became very apparent that it would be far too slow.

That was a drum sander, the hire place do a larger ~2' disc type sander which they said I could test... may give that a go.

But my gut reaction is planing is the way.

Thanks though.

I am looking for a decent lathe at a sensible cost so some advice on makes please. I would like to turn some large lumps of wood into something useful.

You will be wanting a union graduate lathe, i got mine from these people.

G & M Tools - Union Graduate

The last piece that i turned was about 20", which was about the limit.
