  1. 1. Are there too many tree surgeons in the UK?

    • Far too many; so much competition I can barely survive!

    • Not too many but don't need any more!

    • Could do with a few more to be honest!

    • Nowhere near enough. So much wood and so little expertise!

The job is now seen as quite cool, almost an offshoot of the whole rise of the extreme sports thing.

This all adds to the amount of people desperate to get into the industry.

The gear we use has got a lot better looking as well, which doesn't help.

We could sort it out in about six months if we all went back to wearing bib and brace, checked flannel shirts and growing massive beards. Especially the girls!

Job's a good 'un.

Its hard out there to find work but if u put your heart and soul into it and go the right way around it (not picking up a saw without the knowledge and understanding)

Cant we all share the rewards??

Just remember that the work you get will take work away from someone else.

Its a finite pie. The more people that want a slice, the smaller the slices get.

Don't get me wrong i don't want to start my own business, want to get all my courses finished (what I've paid for by saving loads!!)

So hopefully i can find work with an honest firm to make an honest living :001_smile:

this is oh so true, the ammount of people i see at capel manor on arb courses, all skateboarder/snowboarded types, most of em dont even end up going into tree work, i know of 3 or 4 guys who have gone to do ski/snowboard instructing.

the simple fact is cutting bits off of trees isnt exactly rocket science, a set of kahoonas can soon be grown with practice and experience and we arent monitored by the tree police. this doesnt make you an arborist and i am not saying everyone could carry out a lot of the work that some of you guys have posted on here, but the high percentage of joe public will give the guy who called back first the job. And if the place is left tidy and the customer is happy then way hay, you are a tree surgeon..:001_smile:
