Saying speak English could be a hate crime! I don’t like bashing the police, but this clip makes that...

When you see lunacy like this and the amount of people being prosecuted for online posts, maybe Trump and Vance are not far off the mark about freedom of speech being eroded in the UK 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️” a hate crime” it makes 1984 seem sensible.

Point of pedantry: the book is entitled 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'.

1984 was a year: its degree of sensibility would have been a personal thing.

As a point of pedantry, do as your friends suggest and Google that title.

Which friend suggested? What did I miss?

I did google it, but afterwards, hence the addition of the hyphen as per the edit.

Rigggght, so as usual zero actual constructive response or reply.

Just because my logic doesn't align with your happy to spunk a few million quid up against a wall whilst muttering "greater good".

I think your well aware of my view that a lot of you are lefty socialism types, expecting the state to suckle and provide for your every whim and make decisions for you to remove all thoughts and personal responsibility.

Nope, I think that as citizens of earth we would be disingenuous to remain unaware of climate trends.

It's got f' all to do with suckling the state's tit.

That's why we disagree so often, you see the world as a binary choice of right-wing vs left-wing, and I don't.

Oh how wrong you are, I'm a citizen of Great Britain.

I see a lot of lefty bs spouted here but I remain mostly in the centre as that's just considered right wing by lefties.

They have gone so far left it's almost full circle and the doors either hitting them on the arse 2nd time around or it's like the moron trying to open a fire door from the outside smushed against the glass.

And that's where the problem lies. The planet is bigger than one island.

What used to be considered to be a "right of centre" position is now where the current incarnation of Labour are at. Make of that what you will.

And you understand why those that think like you are very chicken little, worry about what YOU can control.

Do I live a pretty low impact lifestyle, yup.

Am I pretty centre with my views Yeap.

Labour has gone so far left even the 70s hippies look capitalist.

No doubt we'll have the keep it POTUS brigade.

So why shouldn't we be self sufficient, I don't care about the oh it should be gradual BS, hard luck.

Why shouldn't every developed nation make as much as possible, you want cleaner and more efficient manufacturing don't you ?

Well shall we compare the most hippie of hippie capitalists Ben & Jerry of the ice-cream variety to Labour.

Fag paper difference, Vince Dale too.

The only left of centre mainstream party in the UK at the moment are the Lib Dems. Labour are a touch right of centre, Reform are hard right and the Conservatives just try to morph to wherever they feel they might be able to pick up votes.

Gareth, you cannot be seriously suggesting that you are centrist in your political outlook? I've got no idea where you live, or the community with which you interact. Perhaps in that context you are centrist, but in the political spectrum, you are one of the most unashamedly right wing people that I've interacted with here on Arbtalk; a forum that is right leaning anyway.

I've stated many many times I'm a pretty old school centrist small c conservate.

The way I look at it is L-R now.

Green - Liberal - New Labour - Conservative - reform mostly in the middle maybe a little right.

But there is no right-wing of old like the 70s labour party with the daft buggers of Corbyn salivating and calling for death to scabs and such.
