It was on the BBC because New Zealand fired their UK envoy over his remarks.

Maybe remember a little Corsican emperor had a bit of a wanderlust that took him most of the way to Moscow and Egypt, similar idea of an Austrian painter.

It's hardly news, there are reasons islands tend to be peaceful places.

Yes, I know.

I read it.

Also remember Europe as a continent has pretty much always had a war brewing or happening including civil wars etc.

The only time in history is post WW2, when the cold war enforced a halt other than sabre rattling.

And in the last century this peace was backed up by bigger boys either side of Europe. When one of the bigger boys decides to take their toys home there is going to be an imbalance, which will affect peace in the near future.

Immediate affect will be Russia keeps up its invasion in Ukraine, many more deaths knowing that Europe doesn't have the mandate to cross over there to help out - can only send hardware - and knowing that the US are walking away as well.

.. but Gareth (here is the pointed dig)... that is all OK because the US is not spending money, and the lives lost are only Ukrainian solders.

The point is that Europe has enough money and arms manufacturers to provide the security themselves.

With all the empty talk of the European technocrats, why should your little alliance of Europe rely on Americans to spend their money defending Denmark or for example ?.

We don't like you Mr trump, but give us all your money and protection.

There is no point within that post or any offer of an opinion for an alternative solution 🤷‍♂️

News coming in on various newsfeeds - via reuters, which I take as reliable and assume I don't need to verify - that 240,000 Ukranian refugees will be sent back to Ukrania and n000 Afghans who worked along side the military in intelligence gathering in Afghanistan and thus would have been hunted down and shot by the Taliban and were thus offered asylum and a safe home in America, are being sent back to Afganistania

Linky

Still, as long as America is great again and Trump's rabid supporters have someone to look down on to make themselves feel better, who gives a F huh?

Gareth, it is true that Europe is rich enough to defend itself, but that transition needs to be managed better than just suddenly turning off the taps as it were. As a part of NATO, Trump does have a point about fairness, we all spend the same % on NATO stuff... but again... to ensure security that transition needs to be gradual and not all and then stop.

'We don't like you Mr Trump...."... however he is only the figure head of the US, as a country we do still like the US, we do still want to work with them, but Trump is a blip in the way of a continued and good relationship. Temporary as well, 4 years time he'll be moving on, the world has to manage him until such a time as a competent leader is elected.

What a crock of empty platitudes, Europe had over 60 years to pull it's act together and actually spend more with most of your loudest euro countries criticising trump paying the least and then attempted to guilt shaming.

The Germans paid practically nothing whilst we & America had bases throughout Germany up until around 2010 and paid for it dearly!.

You and they hate the Donald and the Donald won't pay as a result. Bed and made comes to mind.

Mommy says it's time to stop breastfeeding and time for solids!.

What is amusing to watch is the same EU cartel leaders who happily wanted to totally exclude the UK from everything on the other side of the channel for leaving the  club are now more than happy to be schmoosing with Starmer, a continent of ****************ing hypocrisy

The reality 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰time to spend on defence not utter bollocks.

Yeah, historically expensive for the British taxpayer.

Starmer at the bar buying the first round then everyone mysteriously has plans afterwards.
