Will their software be imported from Mexico or sent out from within the US and so not subjected to tariffs?

Why not ask Microsoft, Google and others how they use their sweetheart tax arrangement with Ireland.

Plus seeing that most things are actually hosted on Google/Amazon AWS were probably was past that point of debate as it's all in the cloud and not physical media for decades.

On the subjest of taxes/VAT and tariffs how about the new UK free ports eco zones im wondering will they actually come to much?

I don't think Holyhead Island for example is gonna transform into HongKong....but the hope seems to be they will attract some investments& jobs......

Personally I just see it as a government backed Ponzi scheme to close old industrial estates, convert to apartment housing and build new industrial estates on new land.

That's what they're trying to achieve with united and Trafford park.

Plus with energy prices, the only industry that will thrive is digital, actual engineering is space and energy intensive.

Digital might be good money but that's more flash in the pan profits short-term.

Tarrifs dropped for now anyway since both Mexico & Canada seem to have  bent over for Trump & given in to his demands...a win for Trump?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/02/03/mexico-tariff-retaliation-trump/

Im not sure that it will be very effective in stopping fentanyl, probably just be  a waste of money....

Next, will China will back down in a similar fashion?

I doubt it....

We probably read different slants on the news. Canada didn't roll over, they cancelled a starlink project and stuck signs in all the shops "buy Canadian" while removing US products... and Trump paused the tariffs with no gain for himself.

Mexico just confirmed 10,000 troops will be sent - as agreed with the Biden administration and the tariffs were dropped. Not really bending over, but he got the publicity out of it?

But Ireland isn't imposing tariffs on imports to the US are they?

Go have a look at how digital tax works for those companies, it makes IKEA look simple.

Effectively they pay on profits and use trademark and fees to pretty much achieve zero tax.

Canada announced this back in December 2024

https://www.canada.ca/en/public-safety-canada/news/2024/12/the-government-of-canadas-border-plan-significant-investments-to-strengthen-border-security-and-our-immigration-system.html

So what was the big deal of the tariffs if he just dismissed them without gaining a single thing. Shirley it just makes him look weak. Unless he just wanted to create and buy the dip in crypto like :)
