Employing foreign staff through agencies

Does anyone have any experience with this, and anyone who can recommend any good agencies to go through?

One of the companies I climb for are having increasingly more difficulties finding staff. Its not just them either, I seem to get a phone call or text at least once a week from different people asking me if I know any climbers or decent groundsmen looking for work. I find it hard to accept that there aren't any english people out there willing to work hard, but it really does seem to be the case.

A company I climbed for a few years ago went the route of using agency staff, all Polish. These guys were fantastic. Came into work on time, worked hard from start to finish, and on top of all that they were happy in their work. Over a 4 year period this particular company had 5 different Polish staff, only one of which wasn't quite up to the standard of the others. That 5/1 ratio would be easily reversed in my experience working with the english work force unfortunately.

With that in mind I have started suggesting people look to this route when they ask me if I know of anyone looking for work.

Interested in anyones thoughts, and this has absolutely naff all to do with Brexit so please don't take it down that route, thanks.

Ive never worked with a few non nationals but the 2 that spring too mind are 2 bulgarian lads who helped us out on a job with a company i subbed for couple of times.

Both were big strappin lads, worked there nuts off and picked the job up quick,i think they were tattoo artists between jobs just lookin for something for a couple of days work.

Never had any experience of agency workers myself but the brit workforce seems to be lacking in positive work ethic.

perhaps the underlying problem is that the employers aren't paying enough in wages?

I currently work 200 miles away from my house. I only do this because my hourly rate is good. If the employers paid more they would get employees....

Of course that comes into it. But for many companies the pay is dependent on performance. Few stick it out beyond the initial lower starting pay, or otherwise never progress themselves to the point where they are worth more money.

But yes, the industry isn't the best paid, we have been over that plenty of times

What a sad state of affairs.

If you are working for these companies I assume it's not a pay related problem?

We read it here all the time. 'looking for work, got CS xyz, 5 year experience, trailer license, blah, blah, blah', If anyone knows of any work within ten minutes of my bedroom you can contact me on 01234 567890'. Some people need to get in the real world!

I've heard it first hand, the place I weigh my scrap in employs about twenty lads, nearly all of them are Polish. I asked the lad who owns the yard why he employs so many Europeans....... Simple answer, the English don't want to work.

No help whatsoever which agency you should contact, mind.

I'm as picky about who I work for as I expect them to be about who they employ.

This foreign workers thing gives a false impression.

The workers we see coming to the UK are, by the very nature of things, the ones with a bit of get up and go.

There are plenty that don't come to the UK, that would give any of our scrounging layabouts a run for their money (figuratively speaking)
