Tips for cleaning sap from ropes and kit??

Anyone got any good tips on how to clean sap off ropes and other kit? I wash mine in a luke warm bath with deteregent which normally gets them clean, but not the sap, its still very sticky, and its driving me mad... the sap usually comes off after a while of using the ropes, but ive been doing a few conifers lately and there getting very sticky, and its a new rope

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Keep the old rope for conifers.

Olive oil is supposed to remove sap, might be worth a try.

buy a ropeguide primus mate you will never see sap on ya rope again

Ya'll ain't much help.

I use my washing machine with mild detergent or I'll blast it at a carwash.

I use petrol for the really nasty stuff (just dont tell the loler inspector )

Only if its really thick stuff, I will put petrol on a rag and rub it on the sap to break it down a bit. Then use a bit of washing up liquid to break the petrol down.

I only use old ropes on sappy conifers, pines etc.

i'd still avoid using petrol personally mate.

to bad you can't use stihl bio bar oil which is biodegradable ,it eats sap off every thing .might make the rope a bit slick though.

have you tried the rope brush from beal, i bought mine from gustharts and it brings the rope up nicely and it fits quite a few different sizes due to it being a helix shape.
