Hi,

 

Has any one else experienced problems starting their saws or other 2 stroke motors with this recent heat?

 

I left my saw in the car one day, it got hot and it wouldn't start, once i got her to running she was very spluttery, smokey and kicked oil out the exhaust.

 

Has any one else experienced this and could it have caused any problems?

 

My saw runs fine now but did notice oil round the decompression button on the top.

 

Any ideas?

Nope . All seam to start easier to be honest . Less pulls on choke from cold before it fires , first pull from hot .

Brand new 395XP - ran fine for 20 mins, 2 days later I could not start it... changed plug, checked connections etc etc...

 

 

In the end called Jonsie - apparently very common - fix is to 'ahem' take bar and chain off for safety, pull over with throttle full open like the saw is flooded. As told on the 12th pull it kicked over and 14th pull off she went!

 

 

Never had it before.... flooded saws obviously but not had it like that.

I had oil round the decompression button. Started fine first thing but then didnt cool down at all in the heat so whenever I pulled it it started to flood the saw. I just took the plug out and left it to dry a bit then put the plug back in and it went first pull every time.

Surely it is vapor lock?

 

You need some avgas

 

"Avgas has a lower and more uniform vapor pressure than automotive gasoline so it remains in the liquid state despite the reduced atmospheric pressure at high altitude, thus preventing vapor lock." Taken from wikipedia

Aspen also has a lower vapor pressure and is therefore more resistant to vapour lock.
