Postie van

Had a slight mishap with a rolling log and a Royal Mail van, log rolled down a bank and bashed the sill, slight dent, would probably cost up to £300 to sort, their solicitors rang up today wanting my insurance details saying they will send me the bill once it's repaired , however I m pretty sure the cost is going to be massive and so would like my own quote ( as my excess is £500), the solicitors day this is not possible? Shall I just get the lube out now or can I demand a different quote? Like a moron I didn't get a photo

Inflated price expected. They will probably leave it or drill a hole pull it out. Or worst case weld a new sill on and repair in Royal mail red (cheaply available paint) How is it going to cost £100?? I feel for you, also reckon you have the right to get a 2nd opinion. Van will be on same run tomorrow to get a photo.

The home owner is gonna get a photo tomorrow and P O insurance company are going to e mail me one, just so frustrating that a really cheap job is gonna cost me my excess and put up my premiums, was looking on the bright side until solicitors phone call, that alone has probably eaten my excess!

Contact your own insurance co. and let them know the score, especially the fact that you're willing to pay from your own pocket for a perfectly good repair.

Worth a go.

Yeah rang em today(Tree Surgeon Insurance), explained that I was gonna try and sort it myself, but if it gets nasty they are gonna step in

Not a 100% certain on this John, double check with your insurer depending how your policy is written, but I think that you only have to pay the excess if you make a claim on your OWN insured vehicle.

The insurer should pay out a TP claim without it costing you in the short term. Of course when it comes to renewal, then you'll have to bend over and take it!!!!!

I had a TP claim made against me couple of years ago, no damage to my vehicle so didn't make a claim for myself. Insurer paid out TP and never came calling for the policy excess to be paid back. But then I did see my premium shoot up nearly 60% at renewal!!!

He didn't have a vehicle in the accident. It's a PL claim. :001_smile:
