Has anyone used a DMM Impact block?

Just interested to know if anyone has and if they rate them or hate them and if there is any difference compaired to using a normal isc block.

We have 2. Not used them myself yet as I've not been on the tools for a few weeks

We use them with a 22mm tennex sling. With the ISC blocks we were using a 19mm sling was the biggest I could fit in so the dead eye was the weakest part of the system. I've got the stems of some big monterey pines to rig down soon. Using the block and big slings should allow us to drop some lumps.

Just bought the small one, should arrive tomorrow, will try it on Friday....although the trees are pretty small. Got a big radiata soon, so will test it out.

Look forward to what you think of it:thumbup1: I was a bit optimistic that anyone would buy one because of the price. Really like the design and less rope abrasive edges. Christmas list i think.

so has anybody actually extensivley used the dmm block?

Only used mine about three times, its ok but its just a block, looks great and feels nice. Never really had a problem with rough edges on ISC blocks so I dont think theyh are a cure for anything.

The ratign is so high on them though, it doesn't feel right! Almost like using 10mm spectra webbing as an anchor point, you know its rated high enough but you still feel better using old school inch webbing with the same rating.

The small DMM has the same (approx) rating to the big yellow ISC one but I still prefer to have that big MF at the highest and final rigging point. Maybe for blocking down I would switch it out and use the DMM instead, maybe thats where it will come into its own league?? Not had that opportunity yet.

So when I have used it as a part of a multi block set up I tend to have it as the final block. i.e the lowering point, that way if it is any better at tending the rope then it will get a chance to do so.

I think that a full set up of DMM blocks would just be too expensive, more blocks (distributing load) is better than less but stronger blocks, so a good selection is ideal. We now have four ISC and the one DMM plus redirect pulleys, i will have to try and get them all up one tree one day! four is my record so far!

they dont half look sexy, yeah the small one is rated nice and high and its tiny in comparison though they are costly, again never had problems with rough edges but man look at it is sooo shiny and smooth!! as for it not looking the part - i started off my rigging kit with a 1.5 tonne rated pulley i got for redirecting winch lines, and an old isc swing cheek (the type used for friction hitches) and often just a steal crab through as sling and though never ever blocked down on it but had a few......this is never going to hold moments but it always did.....As any one seen one of the big blocks fail, not the anchor point but the block its self?? a pal just bought the small impact block, he loves it and i think the bigg one has a hole in through the main pulley you can set it up so it wont twist and such,

take it many people haven't seen taylors video yet then.
