  1. Regarding option 1, it is both berries AND needles that are poisonous. Quote should include the option to remove all needles from the trees too. Regarding point 4... I'd imagine the quantity of ingested laurel needed to get a bad result would in itself be protection enough. How many whole leaves need to be eaten to get the effect?
  2. Yew berries do look delicious all right, it seems kind of unfair that are so perilous. Easily understandable that people with learning difficulties would be particularly at risk.
  3. Good stuff. Any buried treasure?
  4. Jesus man, charge your damn phone, I cannot deal with the stress of that 3%.
  5. I saw it, absolutely mental. Yeah, big seas, I guess. Edit Thinking about it again, that was like Mark Watney in The Martian levels of "yep, you're f*cked." Crazy that they got him back!
  6. Interesting. How quickly could you expect to see a significant response, with surface supplied available? Is that the sort of thing most countries have a few hours sailing away from anywhere on the coast, or is it a one or two capable vessels per country sort of thing? Presumably it's a lot quicker to throw together a scuba team, regardless of how suitable they'd be for a prolonged job? And how big a sea can people reasonably expect to see some kind of response in?
  7. I heard on the radio it holds the record for the tallest aluminium mast? Might mean nothing, you know how facts can get garbled through reporting. And I think 50 meters down, but again, that was from earlier reports that might not mean anything.
  8. Ukraine hits Russian pontoon bridges in Kursk. m2-res_476p.mp4 Imagine being the guy tasked with building the next one!
  9. Weather conditions maybe? I understand it was pretty stormy, which is what caused the problem in the first place. I've not been following it closely, but it's often the weather that hampers the best intentions of any rescue efforts.

You want to watch out for those Romanian mongrels, Baldric has a hole in the top of his head after being jumped by one. Sneaky buggers.

It does seem the obvious choice, yeah, and he's got a home here for as long as he needs, but I wouldn't want to take him away from the kids if they want to keep him. In the days and weeks immediately following, the dog was shunted around a few different places (including an alpaca farm, I think...?), but they eventually decided they wanted him back home. As for the kids... they are 14, 16, and a 22 year old from a previous marriage, with a 3 year old kid herself, so it isn't a case of them all being dragged off to the orphanage, thankfully. The 22 year old has naturally stepped into the role of matriarch over the last few years while her mother was dying, so she's got a hold on the situation already; and there was a huge display of support from the community with a fundraiser, so the mortgage can be paid for a long time yet at least. The bailiffs won't be kicking them out any time soon. Still... what an absolute c*nt of a situation to be dealing with. Back to dogs! I just tried uploading a minute of Oscar wrecking Loki's head, but the file was too large. But you can get the same visuals if you look at the last picture I posted, shake the screen from side to side a bit, and growl occasionally. Enjoy.
  12. I flipping love pottering. Enjoy. Edit I was brought a jammy croissant, coffee, and orange juice in bed! What a treat. Now, on with the pottering.

Uh oh The wife wants to keep him now... So does the collie, he loves having a younger friend, and doesn't give him a second's peace. The brown fella though, he wants to get rid of both other dogs, both cats, both children, and go back to the good old days when he was our only child.
  14. Seershuh. What are they on over here, honestly?! God didn't invent these letters for fun, they are supposed to mean something you know!
  15. I do like the idea of a choose-your-own-adventure business card... some of my activities don't really go hand-in-hand with each other. My chicken customers aren't really the same audience as my tree customers... One side of the card blank over a faded photo, for adding bullet points or crude sketches.
  16. The spelling of Irish names is a real pet piamh of mine.
  17. Friend of mine growing up had some absolutely massive koi carp in his pond. Never ate a single one. What a waste!
  18. That's exactly what I had assumed, I was about to edit my post explaining my misconception, but decided it wasn't worth it. Yet here we are. But yeah, it'd be very easy to jiggle that flyer into a card. Lose some text, squeeze it up a little.
  19. My opinion is worthless, but I think the card looks lovely as is, and doesn't necessarily need a logo. That said, I have asked an old friend who illustrates children's books to do things like that in the past. Failing that, ask a small child to draw a very simple tree using a big black felt tip pen, and either use it straight off, or modify it as necessary. This is the limit of my experience on the matter. Personally, I would flat-out refuse to pay someone any significant money to design a logo.
  20. In that case, swap the daffodils for a few goldfish.
  21. Helps deter nibbling pests 👍 Maybe go for wild garlic instead though, for a more permaculture forest garden feel...
  22. Doesn't make processing them for firewood upon their demise any easier, either. Shite for biodiversity, too.
  23. Have you got a zoomed-out picture for context? Apples are hardy bucks really, they'll do their best to just soldier on through all sorts of damage. Try and drain the hole as nepia suggests, but if the tree has sentimental value and you aren't looking for optimum yield from it, just let it do its own thing. Show a distance pic of the whole tree and its surroundings and there might be other suggestions for what you could do, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it to be honest. If you like the fruit it provides, start planning a replacement tree for when this one gives up the ghost... it's easy and fun to graft donor wood from your tree onto a rootstock, they make great presents for family members or friends of the original owner of the tree, that sort of thing.
  24. You can maneuver your pole saw into the tricky-to-reach places in the tree with ropes and stuff!
