  1. The young fella at Uvalde showed up with a pair of rifles and 1800 rounds. He must have thought it was a bit heavy though, and either dropped or lost 900 of them before going inside. Still, at least he didn't have a third rifle too, or someone could have gotten seriously hurt!
  2. Yeah, he seemed pretty determined to do some damage. I wonder what his score would have been with a pair of assault rifles and 1800 rounds.
  3. I'd rather my local mental case be armed with a bread knife than an assault rifle, personally.
  4. A mossy lawn is a thousand times comfier than a monoculture lawn, and anyone who disagrees is shit at parallel parking.
  5. The Wikipedia page for the shooting is a pretty wild read already, and I can only see more content being added over the coming days. Robb Elementary School shooting - Wikipedia EN.M.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
  6. Ah come on now, I'm sure we can find some other excuse.
  7. 1.93ish in Ireland. Good thing I've not been driving much lately, I've saved a fortune.
  8. Probably those violent computer games and that weird book by Margaret Atwood. We should just ban all subversive books, games, and films.
  9. - Uvalde officer, trained for the exact situation as little as two months hence
  10. Wrong thread, Stere. This is the news thread, not the business as usual thread. Edit Pretty graph, though. Floral.
  11. Do they know what the effects of microplastic pollution are specifically on male fertility and sperm motility, and are they still happy to have the young lad playing on it, driving his trucks up and down it, tearing up countless thousands of airborn microplastic particles and breathing them all in, lodging deep within his lungs? Did they know about that?
  12. Looks absolutely hideous and you aught to be ashamed of yourself.

    Gizza job

But by golly, what a stupid rule!
  14. That's beautiful. Great stuff.
  15. Man, I got a bit of a lift when I saw your name pop up there, I thought someone was about to say something sensible. Hope you are well.
  16. I had to do a bit of work with a rusty auld bowsaw a few weeks ago. Shitty blade, definitely needs replacing, but still... I bloody love chainsaws.
  17. Ahhh, I can't hear the word deglove without recoiling. Grisly stuff. I can't imagine the relief you must have felt after that episode. Well I just got home, 2.5hr drive from the hospital, in an automatic though so no big deal. Now to feed the chickens, water the plants, and wrestle the cats. Life goes on.
  18. Yep, sliced open front and back, Sunday and Tuesday, to wash it all out. No, luck had nothing to do with it, the only thing that saved the hand was timely and skillful surgical intervention. It would have been lucky if the antibiotics alone did the trick. Anyway, nothing is certain yet, until the cuts have healed and the course of meds is complete.
  19. Noble, focused, slightly-psychopathic gaze on them there. Handsome animal.
  20. Handsome wee fella. How would you go about training to encourage ratting behaviour? I'd definitely like to move towards canine pest control instead of feline, they are so much less destructive to an ecosystem. I'm leaving hospital this morning, the wife sent me a photo of the poor hungry kitten looking dejected on the doorstep. So he's not been scared off by the ordeal, anyway. Also, I suppose my future hopes and dreams of being a hand model can be thrown in the bin.

    Jokes???

It depends what enclosure she's chosen, really. Meerkat... smart enough. Leopard seal... not so much.

    Jokes???

I was on the edge of my seat waiting for them to go over a weir or be swallowed by a carp or some other catastrophe, and I was pleasantly surprised.
  23. Very interesting. There is a small population of wild rabbits up on the hill behind our future house, and I'd like to try and encourage their numbers however I can. It's common ground up on the mountain, but I'm not sure how the neighbouring sheep farmers would feel about that. I've seen things like old kids' sandpits, upturned and buried with wide drainpipes leading into them, as ad-hoc warrens. I think 2 rabbits per dog per week is a good target, plus a few eggs as necessary for calories and fat.
  24. That answers that question then. I'll stick to cats for now, but I do intend to bring a Jack Russell or similar on board in the future to take over the ratting. I put a bell on the male of my two housecats for a while because he seemed to be bringing home more birds than rats, but it's not ideal. I'll be farming rabbits (for dog meat) one day too, so unless I do a really bad job of it and they all escape, I shouldn't expect to need ferrets for that either. Interesting to think about though, thanks for the suggestion.
