  1. Gum and Mountain Ash I believe. I have read stories of verified near 400 footers in the early days logging in Aus and NZ. We have a fair amount of Gum here in NorCal, and I can tell you from experience that it is some extremely hard and heavy wood. Wonderful trees to work in, but they can really kick your ass if your not careful. Checkout Dave Coleman or Ace Tree Service vids. Some serious mofo's wreaking big wood down under. Amazing stuff! Thanks for the great vid Mick!

    Tree with a view

Another great vid Reg. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times! Youre the best buddy.
  3. Lawrence is a fantastic tree-man. A humble young man, with great climbing and rigging skills, and the ball to make big cuts when needed. What’s not to love? Look into “The Shultz Effect”. A great resource for both veterans and newbies alike who are looking to advance their skill set.
  4. Skidded a bunch of smaller 2nd growth today. Decked out 3 different landings that are ready for milling.
  5. A couple recent Stumpie's from the same job, and a few more yellow jacket bites! Just got started on milling 4x10 timbers for decking on a Redwood bridge rebuild project we will be doing next spring. 2 down, 63 more to go.
  6. Thanks slack ma girdle. Some folks want to leave a pretty corpse when they pass on. Since that’s not an option for me, I try and leave pretty stumps instead.
  7. Couple fresh stumpies from yesterday morning. I got stung 8-9 times, and we got chased off the job by Yellow Jackets by lunch time.
  8. The cabin is their full time residence. Modest no doubt, but a castle compared to my little board & batten shotgun cabin. Its was but by a old-timer Swedish builder and his sons around 1900, and is made from small redwood logs with the bark still on them. Many of the older places around here were build this way, as leaving the bark on a Redwood log makes them very impervious to the elements, but also makes for a very dark and dusty house to live in.
  9. Spent the afternoon sticking and stacking some fresh lumber. Gonna be crippled tomorrow morning. A couple pics of a little Redwood deck I recently banged out for an old couple that has lived here in my neck of the woods for over 50 years. We removed 2 Redwoods near the cabin and milled them up last year.
  10. Breaking in a new groundie/general helper lately. Kid might just be a keeper? Todays was his first time working with the mill. We got into some beautiful mildly birds-eyed logs.
  11. Man I love these vids when you take the drone out in the brush Reg. Really takes me back to my roots. I cut my teeth limbing, topping and rigging spar poles for lift (pimp was the job name) with yarder outfits in Sitka Spruce territory. Banged over a lot of big tops in 200 plus footers back in the day. Just an incredible tree with some of the most amazing wood I have ever had the privilege of working with. Sitka Spruce and Redwood are my 2 all time favorite trees to work with. I for one really appreciate you sharing these vids with us. This one really made my day.
  12. Shit Show! Doesn't appear that this fella is ready for all those shiny new saws?
  13. Thanks Hicap. I don’t run hot rodded saw anymore. Just stock saws for me these days.
  14. The hardhat thing is a dead horse. I very rarely wear PPE, but choose to wear it sometimes, or when I have to. This is how I was brought up , and it has kept me safe for decades. As they say, let those who ride decide! Dont have a clue what the “sleepy” comment means?

    Jokes???

A fella goes to the brain store to buy a new brain, and quickly realizes he can't really afford anything in the store. He was just about to leave when he noticed an old tree-man/arborist brain buried under a bunch of stuff. Surely he could afford that? He was shocked to find out it cost $1,000,000! He ask the sales person why the old tree-man brain was so expensive and was told that it was "like new, and had never been used".

Damn that looks like Southeast. Tree line right down to the water, steep choppy ground, and big timber. The good old dayz! Alaska and northern New Mexico are 2 of my favorite places, and both have the ability to do just as you described. Remind you that you are small, insignificant, and your bullshit truly ain’t important. My hood has that ability also. I just need to slow down and listen a little more often...

There wouldn't have been any fun in that Mick. The springs down in the gorge are a fairly sacred place to me, so I drowned the life out of those evil things, threw them in my pack, and dropped them off at recycle! No fuss, no muss!

    Reduction Pruning

A few years back I was living off the grid in a little yurt in the mountains outside of Taos New Mexico. I got feed up with all the bullshit that comes along with being connected to this modern world., so one winter morning I was headed down into the Rio Grande Gorge to sit in some hot springs, and I threw my computer and cell phone in the river. Spent 3 years disconnected from the evil digital world. Kinda miss those days! (not my pic)

Beautiful spot Reg. Reminds of Southeast AK a bit. It looks like the perfect place to relax and contemplate the error of your ways.

    ArbDogs? Pics!

This is my girl Daphne. We rescued here from a dog fighting puppy mill out in the central valley when she was 6-7 weeks old. The wife had her DNA tested and it turns out she is 100% American Staffordshire. A world class athlete, and smart as a whip. She spends her days working the woods with me.
